2006-2007 Kinesiology Scholarship Awarded to Sammy Karns
Mr. Sammy Karns was recipient of the 2006-2007 Kinesiology Scholarship award in recognition of his accomplishment in completing his undergraduate study in Kinesiology. Dr. Curtis Hart presented the award along with a check for $500 to Sammy at the Health and Kinesiology Graduate Reception on December 8, 2007. The award was established to recognize outstanding performance of an undergraduate senior seeking a B.S. in Kinesiology with a specialization in physical education.
The Department echos Dr. Nancy Martin's kudos to our Advising Center for creating an Advising syllabus. COEHD Advising was the first center to create an Advising Syllabus at UTSA.
The syllabus is now published on the NACADA web-site, thus finding national recognition not only for UTSA but for the COEHD!
The article covers Dr. Cooke's on-going research (with
the United States Army Institute of Surgical Research at Brooke Army Medical Center)
on a potential lifesaving device called the
Impedance Threshold Device or ITD.
Dr. Jianmin Guan, Assistant Professor for the Department of Health & Kinesiology, was among 16 candidates recently inducted as Research Consortium Fellows at the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) Convention and Exposition in Baltimore, Maryland on March 16, 2007.
He joins approximately 375 Fellows in the Consortium, a member group pf nearly 6,000 research scholars and other members of the AAHPERD who have strong interest in research. Attainment of Fellow status is one of the most prestigious honors the Research Consortium can bestow on a member. Fellows are selected based on evidence of scholarship, including research presentations and publications. The AAHPERD is the largest organization of professionals supporting and assisting those involved in physical education, leisure, fitness, dance, health promotion, education and all specialties related to achieving a healthy lifestyle.*

Paula Hunt, San Antonio Express News reporter interviews Faculty member Dr. Donovan Fogt on BMI (Body Mass Index) and Hydrostatic Weighing. These are two great articles and the Kinesiology
Laboratory is prominently featured.
Dr. William Cooke, along with Brooke Army Medical Center, are featured on KENS-5 Eyewitness News with Wendy Rigby for joint research on
a device (an impedance threshold device or IDT) that may eventually help both civilians and soldiers survive life-threatening wounds. See the video interview!
The Department of Health and Kinesiology (KAH)
has received a grant from Distance Learning & Academic
Technologies for the development of Online Courses, to be offered beginning Fall 2006.
KAH congratulates Dr. William
Cooke on receiving a Faculty research Award for his
work on "Arm Nerve Recordings Provide Insight into Hemorrhage
